Final Cut

Chroma Key Effect!

The chroma key effect was a particular effect that we really wanted in our video. We were enthralled by the idea of having a scene in black and white but one item still in colour, as we felt it would represent that whilst our main character's world is dying, the rose, representing the love felt, is still alive and thriving.

However, we tore our hair out trying to work out how to do it! We trawled through the internet and failed to find much which was any help. We kept finding an effect which showed us how to put objects on a green screen, which was not what we wanted. What we hadn't yet realised was that "chroma key" is actually a general term which contains in it lots of effects, one being putting colour on black and white. When we discovered this, we made our searches more specific, eventually finding this tutorial.

It was a tricky effect, and took a while to master. At first it just wouldn't go right, which was aggravating. However, with a lot of practice and patience we managed to master it, and now have a lovely chroma key effect on some of our slides. Here is an example of one of the clips it was used for.

Ancillary Task Feedback

Audience feedback is crucial in gaining an engaging and appealing product. Here is a video explaining why. Therefore, we wanted to gain audience feedback for our product. Whilst scheduling a viewing of the video, we decided to create a feedback booklet for the two ancillary tasks.

I produced this on word. Here are the pages of the booklet :

The next step is to ask a few people, all who are within the target audience but preferably of different ages and gender, what they think of these two tasks.

Magazine Advertisement - Further Development

I have already covered the first stages Alysha went to to create the magazine advertisement in this blog post . However, I felt I needed to detail the effort she went to in the last parts of the effort as well as the first!!

The video below shows the progression of the magazine advertisement into its full glory.

The sequence of our video

We've almost finished! Here is the sequence so far of our video. It is how it looks in final cut and shows all the clips and transitions in the order which they are played. There are still a few tweaks needed here and there but we're so close to the final cut :)

Magazine Advert Progress

Here is the final magazine advertisement (as it stands, although Alysha has said that she may still edit it as we are not yet at the magazine advertisement deadline).
  • There's the rose again! It was really important to us that we have the rose in this product as well. Luckily, Alysha took a fantastic picture to use in it. The hand just below the title shows how the character is hanging on to the rose still.
  • The photos either side of the rose capture the emotion of the character, suggestive of the tone of the product.
  • Notably, the font is the same as the digipak, which is vital in maintaining a consistent house style.
  • The writing is a handwriting- style font which alysha downloaded from a font website called dafont. It is gothicy and reflects the writing of the suicide note in the video.
  • Through our magazine advert research, we have seen that ratings are a vital part, therefore have included these in our video, from media platforms which we believe would broadcast our product, such as XFM and Kerrang!
