We looked at four songs together in class -
1) Nightmare - (Instrumental)
My first thought was of a live band orchestral performance. The start sounds like a concert would.
The song then transitions to take the sound of a car race - it reminded me of competitiveness and gameplay.
There is a building tension which represents the transition of the exciting game.
2) Blanket
This reminds me of somebody who feels lost- possibly a scene of somebody alone within a crowd of people. I would think it would have lots of cross-dissolve transitions.
3) Cowboy Casanova
This song oozes confidence and appears to have a country-western theme. The violin accenuates this.
The singer would be dominant and I would picture her to be surrounded by a lot of men.
The setting could be in a western-style saloon.
4) We No Speak Americano
clearly this song has foreign themes and connotations to the idea of not being able to understand someone. A possible theory used could be that music is the only way people who speak other nationalities could connect.
The sound is reminiscent of the early 20th century and the "Americano" in the title is suggestive that it could be set in the American boom era.
The music sounds like a charleston dance anthem.
I then looked at some songs independently:
1) Cobra Starship - Fold Your Hands Child
- sense of darkness and dismality
- implications of running away
- i could picture someone singing to the sky
2) One Republic - All this time
- at the start - an airplane taking off
- running through an empty field
- a steamed up window, representing inability to connect
- unpleasant and mundane daily activities
3) The Killers - Joy Ride
- It reminded me of the wild west and a battle between cowboys and indians
- Lots of crime and stealing
- Late up motel for the line "pull up to the motel"
- running to a car and speeding away
- weaving in and out of still traffic
4) Panic! At the disco - There's a good reason
- Reminded me of a posh party with a live band, the guests at the party seem outraged at the band - a juxtaposition of old and new
- some would start to dance
5) Panic! At the disco - Time to dance
- Starts at a party - a girl with men ogling her
- pushed to floor
- goes outside- lots of fights
- runs away through woods
- quick cuts - to flashbacks of party
6) One republic - Made for you
- At a beach at night
- Acting as if it was day , ie. sunbathing and playing in the sand
7) Foo Fighters - Word Forward
- Scene - in a forest
- possibly playing drums
- tone of loss, it sounds angry and frustrated
