Effects used in final cut

Through editing our music video, we have explored and used many effects and transitions.

  • we have used cross dissolves a lot in our video, as it is frequently a slow paced video and needs these to reflect the mood.

  • the desaturate tool has been used frequently to make clips black and white, this has been effective as it reflects the dismal and nostalgic mood which our video captures.

  • a dip to colour dissolve has been used at the end to show the rose in its full vitality.

  • the chroma keyer was the hardest effect to get our heads around. After a lot of internet research and scractching our heads, we finally found this helpful video:

This has helped us create an effect which means that just one item can be in colour and the rest of the clip is in black and white. This was a vital part of editing as we really wanted to learn how to do this, as we wanted to use it for the rose.

  • The use of colour corrector means that we can change the colour of a clip, we can slightly alter the saturation etc without making it entirely black and white. This is a vital part of the overdose scene
